The purpose of the bereavement ministry is to offer prayers for deceased parishioners and solace and prayerful support of their families.

Upon the death of a parishioner, a card of condolence is sent to the family to assure the family of the prayerful support of Our Lady of the Assumption parish community. The parishioner's name is placed in our prayer basket before the statue of Our Lady in our sanctuary.

On the occasions of the deceased individual's date of birth, marriage, Mother's Day or Father's Day, if appropriate, and first anniversary of death, acknowledgements are sent to family members assuring them of our prayers during this time of bereavement. The names of the deceased loved one and family members are placed in our prayer basket for the month of the particular commemoration.

During November, a commemorative Mass is celebrated for all the deceased members of the parish who have died since the previous November. Letters of invitation stating the details of the Mass for the Holy Souls are sent to family members encouraging their attendance. Following the Mass, hospitality is offered in the parish hall. This event includes the blessing of dried floral bouquets which are presented to each family as well as a display board of individual memorial cards. Light refreshments are served.
