Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Leader: Marie Gordon

In the late 1970?s permission was given for laity to assist the priest celebrant in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass. Candidates for this Ministry are chosen by the Pastor and submitted to the Cardinal for formal appointment to a term of three years. This may be extended for additional terms at the discretion of the Pastor.

The principal duties of Extraordinary Ministers are:

  1. to prepare the Gifts to be consecrated at their assigned Masses,
  2. assist the clergy in the distribution of Eucharist and Precious Blood,
  3. to carry the Blessed Sacrament to our extended parish community who are unable to be at Mass due to illness,
  4. and to assist the clergy in other ceremonies such as the Blessing of throats and distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday.

We are always looking for individuals who show reverence for the Blessed Sacrament and are willing to make a three year commitment to serve. All practicing, adult parishioners are eligible.
